What is MGANM?

The Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan (MGANM) is a chapter of the Michigan Master Gardener Association.    We are a group of Michigan State University Extension Master Gardeners, Master Gardener Trainees and Community Gardeners who love to learn and share our knowledge.  We promote the horticultural education activities of MSU Extension.

    Join the Master Gardener Association of Northwestern Michigan and Dr.Joshua Vander Weide of MSU for an evening Zoom presentation about growing blueberries and strawberries in your backyard. He will discuss strategies to improve the quality and flavor, establish new plant, and large-scale indoor production. Plus, he will discuss some of the challenges and rewards to home growing of blueberries and strawberries.

    About Your Speaker: Dr. Joshua Vander Weide


    Joshua Vander Weide is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University. He earned his PhD. from Michigan State University in 2020, and served as a Fellow at the University of British Columbia Wine Research Center until 2022. His background is in wine grape horticulture and production, but currently his lab studies berry crop horticulture and production, specifically blueberries and strawberries. This includes strategies to improve the quality and flavor of berries, new plant establishment, and large-scale indoor controlled production.

Become a member

The Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan is open to all who want to learn.  We have three types of membership.  The first is Certified Extension Master Gardeners, people who have gone through the Master Gardener course with Michigan State Extension Services.  The second type is Community Gardener for those interested in horticulture and perhaps interested in becoming a Master Gardener (or were in the past), and Master Gardener Trainees.
